I've been making coffee in Traralgon for the better part of a decade. Three cafes. Thousands of kilos of beans. More flat whites than I can count. But I also drink a lot of coffee that isn't mine - because if you're going to run a cafe in this town, you'd better know what everyone else is doing.

This isn't a ranked list. It's an honest guide from someone who's been in the game long enough to know what makes a good cup and what makes a great one.

MOMO Traralgon

MOMO has been a Traralgon institution since 2014. Three levels, a rooftop deck, and a kitchen that punches well above its weight for a regional cafe. Their coffee is reliable - always has been. The vibe is more restaurant than coffee shop, which works for a long lunch or a function. If you're after a solid coffee with a great meal in a big space, MOMO delivers every time.

Food Co. On Franklin

Food Co is probably the most loved cafe in Traralgon by sheer numbers. The reviews don't lie - people come for the honest, fresh food and they keep coming back. The coffee is good, the portions are generous, and the owner's passion shows in everything they do. It's the kind of place where you feel like a regular from your first visit.

Finch Cafe

Finch has carved out a niche as the Gippsland producer champion. They're serious about showcasing local produce and they do it well. The coffee program is solid, the seasonal menus are thoughtful, and they've built a loyal following by genuinely caring about where their ingredients come from. Worth visiting if you appreciate the paddock-to-plate philosophy.

Store Sixty One

Right down the road from us on Breed Street, Store Sixty One has built a reputation for generous portions, great vegan and gluten-free options, and a warm, welcoming team. Their Buddha Bowl is legendary. The coffee is consistent, the vibe is relaxed, and the outdoor seating on a sunny day is hard to beat. They're good neighbours and a good cafe.

Finally Mine Coffee House

This is mine, so I'll let the coffee do the talking. We open at 5:30am - before anyone else in town. We run Five Senses Crompton Road blend on a custom sage green Synesso MVP Hydra. We do pour overs, cold brew, and single origins that rotate monthly. Thursday to Saturday we flip to a bar with cocktails, local wines, and craft beer.

The corner spot on Breed Street with the bi-fold windows open, pothos vines on the ceiling, and sunlight coming in at 6am - that's the experience I built this place for. But honestly, Traralgon has good coffee across the board. Drink widely. Support local. And if you need one before 6am, you know where to find us.
